WTW Architects of Pittsburgh and Moody Nolan Ltd. Inc. of Columbus, Ohio, have been selected by Athens University to design a 173,000-square-foot university center.

CFA Real Estate Network reached an agreement with BCE Emergis to participate as a service provider on its online transaction system, Emergis Vendor Services Exchange.

Burns & Scalo Roofing Co. promoted Philip Reece to manager of its commercial sheet metal division.

Charles McNulty joined Cuddy Roofing Co. as general manager.

Domenic Ricciuti was hired by Massaro Co., a general construction company, as an estimator.

ASSOCIATIONS

PowerLink, a Pittsburgh-based nonprofit organization that helps women-owned businesses grow through a mentoring program of volunteer advisory panels, received a $75,000 Vira I. Heinz Endowment grant for support of its general operations.

The Pittsburgh Chapter of the National Association of Women Business Owners elected the following officers to serve a one-year term: Carol Venzin, president of Fantastic Sam’s of Pennsylvania, president; Selena Schmidt, president, Grounds for Appeal, president-elect; Renee DeMichiei-Farrow, president, Decorating Details, past president; Peggy Hill, owner, Adjusting Entries, treasurer; and Deirdra Makowiecki, president, MAKK Strategies, secretary.

AVIATION

Lawrence Pietropaulo was appointed president and COO of CJ Systems Aviation Group, an affiliate of FSS Airholdings. Robert Titus was elected executive vice president, finance, for CJ Systems.

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Hefren-Tillotson Inc. has expanded and relocated its South Hills office at Summerfield Commons Office Park.

IronGate Mortgage Inc. was launched by Casey Smith, co-founder of Zlingshot LLC, a technology incubator that closed operations in 2001. IronGate Mortgage is located on the South Side.

HEALTH CARE

St. Barnabas Health System hired John Sterling as it sales director.

LAW

Houston Harbaugh elected Sara Davis Buss, Michael Dempster, Ralph Finizio, Bradley Franc and Alex Thomson to its executive committee.

Thorp Reed & Armstrong hired Paula Schmeck as a partner in the financial institutions and services practice group and Kim Watterson as senior counsel in the commercial and corporate litigation practice group.

Tricia Davis joined Rothman Gordon as an associate in the firm’s litigation department. Paul Yagelski earned board certification in creditors’ rights law from the American Bankruptcy Institute and the Commercial Law League of America.

Mary Sue Ramsden, a founding partner of Raphael, Ramsden & Behers, was selected to receive the 2003 Susan B. Anthony Award from the Women’s Bar Association of Western Pennsylvania.

Meyer, Unkovic & Scott elected Patricia Dodge, Robert Mauro and Dennis Unkovic to the firm’s management committee for the 2003-04 term.

MANUFACTURING

Alcoa Home Exteriors Inc., a subsidiary of Alcoa Inc., reached an agreement to acquire Owens Corning’s vinyl production facility in Atlanta. The transaction is to be completed next month.

PUBLIC RELATIONS/MARKETING

A direct mail piece created by Sewickley Graphics & Design was selected by the American Institute of Graphic Arts for exhibition in the Pittsburgh 100 Communications Show.

Krome Communications promoted Kelly Bilger to account executive and hired Rege Turocy as a graphic designer/production artist.

Signature Marketing Inc. has been launched by Rob Reuter, a veteran of the marketing communications field and formerly with Elisco Advertising. The firm focuses on brand strategy development and marketing communications.

RETAIL

James Smail, dealer principal/COO of Honda Village, was named a recipient of the 2003 TIME Magazine Quality Dealer Award. Smail is one of 64 dealers selected for the award nationwide.

TRANSPORTATION

Pitt Ohio Express was recognized as a quality carrier by Belden Wire and Cable Co. for 2002. The company also promoted Mike Koerper to director of operations for its western region.
