Many leaders in the upper corporate ranks have flawed leadership styles, but high-quality development programs can help them overcome their shortcomings, according to human resource consulting firm Development Dimensions International.
A DDI survey of 187 organizations and more than 5,000 leaders, HR professionals and associates found that two out of three employees have low or moderate confidence in their company’s leadership. It also indicated that leaders demonstrate low levels of loyalty to their organizations, with a third acknowledging at least a moderate chance that they will leave their position for one at another company.
In addition, 82 percent of organizations have a difficult time finding qualified leaders.
The survey found that companies with superior financial outcomes are more likely to have high-quality leadership development programs. More than a third of those with top financial performance had such programs.
Only 6 percent of below average performing companies had these programs.
