Taking pride in where you live
The Albert M. Higley Co. is a community-oriented construction company with a tradition of reaching out to those in need.
Senior management has for many years supported organizations such as United Way, the American Red Cross and Providence House. Employees have followed in the company’s philanthropic footsteps, forming a committee to brainstorm community service activities.
The first project to come out of the group provided backpacks and school supplies to two first grade classes at Cleveland’s Paul Dunbar Elementary School. This year, a Marion-Sterling Elementary School kindergarten class was adopted. Backpacks and other school supplies were purchased and knotted fleece blankets will be given to children before winter break.
Outside of their help at local schools, Higley employees have participated in the CANstruction competition, in which structures of any design are erected in an area shopping mall, using only canned food. The Higley entry resulted in a donation of more than 1,000 cans of food to the Greater Cleveland Food Bank in 2011.
Higley employees spread their kindness among many organizations. They have cooked for people staying at the Ronald McDonald House, taken pledges during the Cleveland Animal Protective League’s Radio-Thon and have helped harvest crops from a local community farm, which go to feed area residents in need.
From their Midtown Cleveland office, employees have participated three times in the annual spring Midtown Clean-Up, pulling weeds, sweeping sidewalks and planting boulevard gardens.
Employees have shown their dedication, through these and myriad other philanthropic endeavors, to support those in need in the community in which they work.
